SAFEGUARDING

Dignity comes before documentation

Imdad Relief works with people who may be affected by conflict, displacement, poverty, disaster or other circumstances that increase vulnerability. We have a responsibility to ensure that our work does not expose people to further harm.

Our safeguarding principles

  • Dignity
  • Safety
  • Respect
  • Privacy
  • Do no harm
  • Non-discrimination
  • Particular care for children and adults at increased risk

Expected conduct

People acting on behalf of Imdad are expected to treat people with dignity, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, avoid exploitation or abuse of power, protect confidential information, avoid conduct that could place beneficiaries at risk and raise safeguarding concerns.

Children

Children’s safety and best interests take priority over fundraising, communications or documentation needs.

Children must be treated with particular care. Contact, photography, interviews and publication should be assessed with regard to age, circumstances, consent, safety and possible long-term consequences.

Sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment

Imdad Relief does not tolerate sexual exploitation, sexual abuse or sexual harassment by persons acting on behalf of the organisation.
  • Humanitarian assistance must never be conditional on personal or sexual services
  • Assistance must not be used for exploitation or exchanged for favours
  • Power relationships must never be abused

Photography and storytelling

People receiving assistance are not marketing assets.

Photographs, video and stories should be used with dignity, appropriate consent, safety awareness, contextual accuracy and respect for privacy. Unnecessarily sensitive information should not be published, and humiliating circumstances should not be turned into fundraising content.

Partners and field teams

Relevant safeguarding expectations also apply to field teams, partners, contractors and volunteers working for or with Imdad. Requirements and follow-up should be proportionate to the role, activity and risk.

Reporting safeguarding concerns

Send your concern to post@imdad.no. Please mark the subject line “Confidential – Safeguarding” where appropriate. Reports are handled as confidentially as reasonably possible. Information may nevertheless need to be shared with those who need it to assess or investigate the matter, or to meet legal obligations.
