The Gambia
When food prices rise and crops fail, low-income families have little to fall back on. In The Gambia, poverty and unstable weather make it difficult for many people to get enough nutritious food. Children are especially vulnerable.
Through a longstanding local partnership, Imdad supports water supplies, food distributions and care and learning opportunities for children. Together, we can strengthen security in daily life.

The need and our response
A vulnerable economy is felt at the dinner table
Unstable rainfall and high food prices make it harder for families to meet basic needs. WFP describes how climate and dependence on imported food affect food security in The Gambia. For households with little to fall back on, an economic setback can have serious consequences.
Water, food and a place to learn
Together with a local partner, Imdad has contributed wells in rural areas, food distributions and a place for children to live and study over several years. These activities meet different needs but share a direction: more security and opportunities in daily life.
The partnership continues. Earlier water and school work provides background for the response; new activities are planned according to local needs and available resources.
